Now Playing: Dave Brubeck (wired.com blogs)
A new device enables drivers to check their e-mails without taking their eyes off the road. The iLane Bluetooth device connects with wireless devices to read aloud incoming messages and manages your inbox through voice activated commands.

The device from Intelligent Mechatronic Systems alerts drivers about incoming e-mail through an audio queue, and can be configured to filter incoming e-mails and provides a summary of the messages. This means the e-mail is being scanned either manually or automatically, which may be a turnoff to some potential customers. The iLane, which has been tested with the Blackberry and Treo, also manages phone calls, SMS messages and e-mail attachments.

This is much safer than trying to manipulate your Blackberry while driving, but intently listening to e-mails while driving has been found to be more distracting than solely focusing on the road. Being rubbed the Bush way?!

back rub

NEW YORK (AP) — An impromptu back rub that President George W. Bush gave German Chancellor Angela Merkel is now massaging millions of funnybones.

A 5-second video and series of photographs recently posted on YouTube.com and various blogs show Bush surprising Merkel at the G-8 Summit by quickly rubbing the back of her neck and shoulders. The chancellor immediately hunches her shoulders, throws her arms up and grimaces, though she appears to smile as Bush walks away.

iPod forever? Not in its current form

Sometimes, you have to wonder whether Silicon Valley’s MBA elite paid attention when their professors lectured about why it’s a good idea to put customers first. Then again, maybe that was an elective course they skipped.

Case in point: the big goof not to embrace interoperability from the very start. All the public-relations palaver in the world can’t disguise what everyone who uses computers and software already knows–erecting unnecessary technology barriers has benefited only a handful of companies. As the tech business closes in on the 25th anniversary of the original PC from IBM in August, I find it incredible that the industry is still wrestling with this anachronism.

Head Butt Soccer
As swiftly as a speeding shot on goal, riffs on Zinedine Zidane’s infamous moment of soccer rage have invaded cyberspace.
